Australian Childcare Alliance Queensland (ACA Qld) GM, Brent Stokes welcomed the opportunity to attend the DoE's Queensland Budget 2019-20 Stakeholder Briefing last week presented by Director-General, Tony Cook. It was a great opportunity to engage with Tony and Deputy Director-General, Sharon Schimming and ask questions relevant to ECEC.

Budget highlights
• $293m funding in 2019-20 (an increase of $22m or 8%)
• Drive continual improvement in the regulation of ECEC (A&R $26.5m over 2 years)
• Support the operation of Early Years Places
• Continue to support universal access to kindergarten ($30.4m over 2 years - 2020)
• Support Qld kindergartens to develop inclusive programs to support children with a disability participating in kindergarten
• Deliver remote kindergarten in 67 Queensland state schools ($7.5m)
• Support kindergarten participation and access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and children from vulnerable and disadvantaged communities

ACA questions
• Long term sustainable funding for kindergarten (4-year old’s)
• Consideration for extending this funding for a second year of kindergarten (3-year old’s)
• Workforce, primarily focused on 2020 ECT requirements and sector preparedness
• Training, Skill sets and ECT Bridging courses (out of scope)
